Lisa - The Running Fire Wife
As
a mama, what's an activity you choose for your kids to keep fit?
We are a running family. I have 3 children: 11,8,& 2. The baby goes in a jogger and the other 2 run along side my husband and I. My kids have already competed in numerous 5ks. They love it! It’s rewarding as a parent to hear my daughter say she wants to train for a 10k and run a half by the time she turns 13. Healthy goals equal healthy children!
If your children could choose dinner, what would it be? What would your healthy choice for dinner be?
My 11 year old daughter would choose chicken lettuce wraps. It’s her favorite!
My 8 year old son would most likely go with Turkey Chili.
I would say my favorite is a toss between zucchini lasagna and the chicken lettuce wraps.
What's something you think is important towards supporting a child's emotional development?
I think it’s very important to communicate with my children everyday. On the drive home from school, we discuss the day, if anything upset them etc. I make one on one time (though sometimes challenging) with them to let them know they are important and loved. We share hugs, I love yous constantly. While I’m washing dishes my daughter will walk by and just blow a kiss and keep going. It’s the little things that go a long way! Knowing that my children feel they are able to open up and tell me everything means the world to me. As a child growing up, I didn’t have that so it’s a MUST that my kids have a trusting and loving relationship with me and my husband.
Favourite after school snack for your kids?
Any kind of fruit or greek yogurt with granola.
Best parenting tip for Healthy Fit Kids you can pass on?
Find a healthy sport, activity, or exercise that the whole family can participate in. It may be a struggle at first, some may not like it. My son didn’t like running at first. As time went on he has grown to love it! So don’t give up!
Replace unhealthy snacks with healthier choices, but give your children choices. When we switched to a healthier lifestyle we did our shopping as a family and let each child choose their healthy snack to transition over.
Thank you so much Lisa for your time :-)
