Mandy says- I love the site Healthy Fit Kids! It offers great tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This is so important today in a world that is so full of sugar laden snacks, and junk food at every corner. Obesity is on the rise, and childhood obesity is a huge problem as well. We all need to look for tips to avoid these scary aggressors! Healthy Fit Kids is it!
As a mama, what's an activity you choose for your kids to keep fit?
We love outdoor activities such as hiking and biking! We hike almost every chance that we get, and explore many different trails all throughout the summer!
If your children could choose dinner, what would it be? What would your healthy choice for dinner be?
My kids love seafood! They love salmon, and mahi mahi. One of their favorite dinners is mahi mahi with a coconut milk cream sauce, and roasted veggies such as carrots or asparagus (yes!) . My older son would want sweet potato fries baked in coconut oil, and my other two would love white potatoes roasted in olive oil!
My dinner would be the same for them, as they really love HEALTHY food! Of course they are normal kids, and love burgers and fries as well..When we serve burgers we try to serve them in a lettuce wrapped ‘bun’ and some healthy fries like I said above! Healthy choices are learned! I was so happy the other day when our eight year old asked for seconds on salad!
What's something you think is important towards supporting a child's emotional development?
I think that one of the most important precious things that we can give our children is love and our time. Lots of hugs and letting them know that we are here for support and encouragement. I firmly believe that parents should always make time to eat dinner with their children. We have always made it a point, no matter how busy we all are with activities and sports to still sit down and eat with them and talk about their day! It doesn’t have to be a fancy dinner every night! Sometimes we have to juggle things around, but even if we sit down together for breakfast it’s time well spent.
Favourite after school snack for your kids?
My kids LOVE strawberries, and they love smoothies made with greek yogurt! Plain yogurt, berries, frozen banana and a little honey are a hit at our house!
Best parenting tip for Healthy Fit Kids you can pass on?
Play outside with your kids! Make memories by hiking and going on impromptu picnics! These memories outweigh sitting on the couch and watching TV! Get them active, and encourage them to try new vegetables and fruits! Make sure to also include some sweets as being alright, so that they know balance and that a healthy life has balance of all good things!
